An “off-the-track Thoroughbred” can find a place in a second career
as “easy as apple pie.” From the beauty of dressage to the fast-paced
sport of hunter/jumper, these fascinating equines are extremely
successful in many different disciplines! On April 14, 2012 at the
lovely Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, the Thoroughbred
Horse Show Association held its first horse show introducing many
talented off-the-track Thoroughbred’s who are registered with The Jockey
Club. The Exceller Fund was honored to be a volunteer for this first
event and voices its support for keeping these horses alert and active
in a career after racing has ended. The Thoroughbred Horse Show
Association allowed fans of these majestic horses to see “up close and
personal” just how talented they can be in the fields of combined
training, trail riding, and competitive hunting.

Fund also feels it is most worthy to note that these OTTB’s are
extremely successful as schooling horses for those learning to ride, as
therapy horses for special-needs populations, as a pasture pal for older
horses, as English and Western pleasure horses for those who compete in
the show ring, and as forever friends to those who simply love them.
